When walking around during the day fix on objects and count the paces to them to help with range estimation.
Always support your local gun shop and local clubs, if you dont who knows how long they will be there.
Practice at various ranges and using all the stances you are likely to need in the field.

If you lend out your gun it will come back rusty, scratched or damaged.

Buy the best scope that you can afford ,even if that means spending less on a rifle.
Don't be obsessed about the power of your gun 11ft/lb IS enough.
Download 'Chairgun' from the internet and play with this program in order to fully understand!
Don't take what is written as gospel, whether it is what is written in magazines about how to shoot (along with associated sound effects), or how evil we airgunners are!
Spread the word to your friends. Make new friends at a club. Talk to the local shop owner & customers that come in. be friendly to all.
Listen to all advise then make your own mind up about things you need to know about.
Take your time, you will learn nothing by doing things yesterday, tomorrow you will be just that little bit better.
PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE.
Buy books, read them then sell them on. Buy DVD's & video's, watch them then sell them on, loads available just look & ask.
If you don't know something ask. If some one tells you about some thing you didn't know about listen then ask others.
When you think you know all there is to know talk to some body who knows nothing. They will know some thing you have forgot about & need reminding.
When practising on knockdown targets, slacken the strings off first..!
If you suspect your gun is not shooting well, ask a friend to try it, it could be you...!
Before going on a 100 odd mile journey, make sure you've charged your gun and you have pellets (AND check calibre).
Perforated foam insulation is a profoundly ugly and rather convenient way of having your pellets readily available when out hunting. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/Pretbek/holder.jpg.
In everything you do, everything you say and everything you write/post...remember there are many people who will seize upon your words and actions in order to portray our sport in a bad light !
Avoid calling your Airgun/Air Rifle an 'Air Weapon'. It aint.
Don't drink coffee (or drinks that contain caffeine) before a shooting competition.
Join the BASC and/or BASA and join a local Airgun Club.

Always try a gun before you buy.

Enjoy our sport.
If you are shooting targets in an HFT or FT competition, pull the string. Shoot at the target at the end of THAT string.
Spend time learning how to rangefind by eye.
