Once again this was a very successful and popular event attracted competitors from as far afield as the Midlands. For the third year running, with the support of local and national trade members, we beat the previous years total amount raised (over £3,000) for Derian House.
Thank you to all who supported this event.

Just some of the many competitors who attended this event in July and helped raise over £2,000 (before Tax Aid) for a local childrens hospice.
Some of these people travelled from afar afield as south Wales.
Despite one of the wettest summers on record the weather on this day was kind.
Daystate yet again took this opportunity to unveil another of their new rifles here.

Well we did warn you that the targets would not be put in boring places! This target, which provided a lot of amusement during the day, especially to those NOT shooting, had to be shot in a semi-couching 'Ouch' position through a (natural) hole in a dead tree trunk. You could, of course, always go 'round' the trunk and take your chances with the wire mesh.
This target (plus others) caused many 'problems' for several competitors during the day who all took it in the spirit of the day - IN FUN!
Regular maintance of the targets brought only 3 stopages during the whole day for (possible) target faults.

A very welcomed visitor to our club show in his face exactly how much he is enjoying the days events while at the same time helping raise money for a very worthy cause.
This is what these days are all about. Having safe, legal FUN (who cares who wins?) with a competitive element for those who enjoy competing. At the end of the day we are ALL winners, especially the charity.
The venue for this years event (Sun. 10th Aug '08) will be at our new woodland outdoor range at Turton just north of Bolton.

Field Target shooting is a sport suitable for all ages and both sexes. We only ask that juniors (under 17s) be supervised by a non-shooting gaurdian.
To encourage junior shooters to our club where they can learn the safe and legal way to shoot and enjoy airguns we have abolished ALL forms of fees ('Membership' and 'Range') to ANYONE under the age of 17. Yes, that right, Juniors shoot at Rivington Riflemen totally FREE! Theres not many clubs in the whole country who offer this facility.
This years event will be held on Sun. 10th Aug '08 at our Turton outdoor range (north of Bolton).

Several competitors stand around and look for their next target. Part of the skill of the course setter is to make every target interesting and challenging and not repetative in either range or stance. This is quite a skill in itself catering for, as this photo shows, differences in competitors heights!
If you like shooting over a flat, boring field at the same targets week in and week out our courses would NOT suit you.

A fantastic days shooting in perfect weather culminated in the winners of the draw prizes presenting a cheque to a representative of Derian House Childrens Hospice. The final amount raised was £1,571.38 which, after Tax Aid benefitted the charity by over £2,000! This was, for the 3rd year running, a record amount.
The event received much praise and NOT ONE word of complaint on the Airgun BBS and Airgun Forums. The targets behaved themselves with only 3 stoppages throughout the day. Nothing stops the fun more than having to keep stopping shooting due to faulty or badly maintained targets.
Brian, from the charity, gratefully accepts the cheque from Roisin the winner of the Funny Hat competion.
We are NOT a 'Pay & Play' airgun club. Our members are quite prepared to promote our sport by raising funds for charity.

A couple of the clubs lady members compete for the trophy for the Top Lady shooter. Carl (bringing up the rear) is wearing this years Rambo camouflage, not very successfully I hasten to add.
SAFETY NOTE: Between firing points the guns must be unloaded with any magazines taken out and the bolts back.

This years (2008) charity shoot, in aid of a local childrens hospice, will be held on Sun. 10th Aug over a course run to UKHFT style rules amongst others. These include classes for 'Open Sight Springer', 'Scoped Springer', 'R.R.Open Rules', 'Top Re-Entry', 'Top Junior (-17)', and 'Top Lady'.
EVERY PENNY taken from the shooting events will benefit the charity.

A real mix of visitors and members went round the course together scoring each others cards. People attended from throughout the north and from as far away as Somerset. There one common aim - to enjoy themselves and raise money for charity. The final total raised on this day was over £1,500.
SAFETY NOTE: Guns must be unloaded between firing points with magazines out and bolts back.
