The British Association For Shooting And Conservation is the UK's leading shooting organisation and has published a highly reliable guide to Safety and Legality and all of it is applicable to British shooters.

BASC:-                  Air Rifles Code of Practice (revised July 2007)

The American  National Rifle Association has produced an extensive Airgun Safety document in Adobe Acrobat format.

The document is in five parts and my be viewed/downloaded.:-

Part1.
Part2.
Part3.
Part4.
Part5.

Be aware that as this document is not sourced from the UK there are some issues relating to the law as it applies to airguns.

The most notable is that in the US there is no upper limit on airgun power.

In the UK we have a limit of 12 FPE for a rifle that is not held on a FAC and an absolute maximum of 6FPE for a pistol, further in the US Sound Moderators or Silencers are either licensed or banned.

In a number of cases specific airguns are discussed however the general principals that are revealed are applicable to all airguns, you may need to think about the best way to apply them in your situation.

Note. If you don't have a Acrobat reader you can get it Here.
